conundrum. But concern remains over the funds’ proliferation
and their influence on short-term market trends.

MANY Australian hedge funds are failing to meet accepted risk-compliance
practices meant to protect investors, according to a global
survey by accounting firm Deloitte. In a global survey of
60 hedge funds, Deloitte found most were taking risky positions
to ensure returns. Almost half the funds surveyed reported
that futures, swaps and derivatives were being held without
measuring off-balance-sheet leverage.

that its separate hedge fund businesses, which have now passed
A$1 billion in funds under management are being combined under
the name MQ Specialist Investment Management (“MQ”).
